Scotts Flat Lake
December 14, 2007 — John O'Dell

This is a picture of Scotts Flat Lake from my house in Cascade Shores. As you can see from the picture, I have a great view of Nevada Irrigation’s lake they created for water storage. NID uses the lake to provide irrigation and drinking water for us. I should say something about drinking water, swimming and bath room duties. Humm

When I looked at the lake, I was sure we were in the middle of a great drought! But in talking to Nevada Irrigation, they told me that the lake is a little above normal for this time of the year. No thanks to our rainfall, which last year was about 23 inches below normal. NID is able to maintain the level of Scotts Flat Lake by bringing water down from Spaulding Reservoir. At this time, they are releasing just enough water to maintain their custormer base.

I have boated on Scotts Flat Lake, that is, before I got rid of my money sink, my boat. They say owning a boat is like having something to sink your money into, or another way to drown your money. I’ve also camped at the NID campgrounds, which is a lot of fun in the summer time. Now my idea of camping is to get out on my deck, if it’s not too cold, or if it’s cold get in the hot tub and look at the lake.
