Country Christmas Faire Coloring Contest

The Nevada County Fairgrounds is offering a coloring contest for children and adults as part of the annual Country Christmas Faire, November 23 – 25, at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

Coloring sheets are available at the Fairgrounds office on McCourtney Road or they can be downloaded at NevadaCountyFair.com.

There are two drawings to choose from, and it’s free to enter the coloring contest. Simply choose your favorite drawing, fill out the entry form, complete the drawing, and return it to the Nevada County Fairgrounds – either by mail or in person – before November 16.  The coloring contest is limited to one entry per person.

The coloring contest is divided into seven categories: five years old and under, 6 – 8 years, 9 – 12 years, 13 – 17 years, 18 – 64 years, 65 and over, and special needs. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded.  Winners will receive carnival ride coupons for the 2019 Nevada County Fair.   

All entries will be on display in Ponderosa Hall with the gingerbread houses during the Country Christmas Faire.  Winners will be announced with ribbons on opening day of the Country Christmas Faire.

The Country Christmas Faire features four exhibit buildings filled with handcrafted gifts and unique crafts. Visitors to the Faire also enjoy strolling musical entertainment, festival foods, wagon rides, a visit with Santa Claus, and a community bonfire. The Country Christmas Faire begins Friday, November 23, and runs through Sunday, November 25.  The hours are 10 am – 5 pm on Friday and Saturday; and 10 am – 4 pm on Sunday. Admission is $5 for adults, and free to children 12 and under. Parking is free.  On Sunday only, bring a can of food and receive $1 off admission. All food will be collected by the Interfaith Food Ministry and distributed in December to those in need.

    Nevada County Fair Tickets Now on Sale 2018

    Fair Office to extend its hours and open the weekend before the Fair for discounted tickets! 

    Tickets for the Nevada County Fair are on sale now. Purchase your admission, carnival tickets, and arena event tickets before the Fair begins and save time and money!  The Fair Office is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and Guest Services will be open specifically for ticket sales on Saturday, August 4 and Sunday, August 5 from 10 am to 5 pm on both days. You can also save time by purchasing your Fair tickets online at NevadaCountyFair.com.

    Buy your admission tickets before August 7 at 5 pm and get an admission ticket for $7.  You can also take advantage of other presale offers, including a five-day Fair pass with unlimited entry for $30, an event parking pass for $25, or a carnival ride bracelet (good for unlimited rides on any one day) for $25.  

    Now is the time to also purchase your arena event tickets – including tickets to this year’s all new Truck and Tractor Pulls! Tickets are on sale now for the Flying U Extreme Rodeo on Wednesday, Truck and Tractor Pulls on Thursday night, Monster Trucks and Tough Trucks on Friday and Saturday night, and the Destruction Derby on Sunday night.

    There are several ways to get your Fair tickets early. Purchase them online at NevadaCountyFair.com, stop by the Fair Office on McCourtney Road, or call the Fair Office at (530) 273-6217 by August 7 at 5 pm.

    The Fair Office at Gate 1 is open Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm, and Guest Services at Gate 1 will also be open on Saturday, August 4, and Sunday, August 5, from 10 am to 5 pm on both days.

    After August 7, ticket prices for the Fair are $9 for adults, $7 for seniors, $5 for children
    6-12, and free to children under the age of 5.  There are also new special promotions on each day of the Fair:

    • Wednesday: Scholar Students Day

    Free admission for Nevada County Honor Roll students until 5 pm

    (by invitation only from the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools)

     

    • Thursday: Community Day
      Free coupon book with coupons for Treat Street, souvenirs and the Draft Horse Classic
      for the first 10,000 customers.

    Free admission for disabled persons until 5 pm

     

    • Friday: Family Friday

    Free parking in Fair lots until noon

    One free carnival ride coupon for first 500 guests

     

    • Saturday: Military Appreciation Day

    Free admission for active and retired military (who show ID) until 5 pm

    • Sunday: Sunday Funday

    Free admission for children 12 and under until 5 pm

      Free Vision/Hearing Screening Services at Nevada County Fairgrounds

      Local Lions Club Will Provide Free Vision/Hearing  Screenings July 30, 2018

      As part of Community Involvement Day, the Foothill Lions Club will provide free glaucoma and vision screening services as well as free hearing testing to adults and children at the Nevada County Fair’s Community Involvement Day on Monday, July 30, from 1 – 6 pm at Gate 1 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds.

      For the vision screenings, the Lions will utilize the Northern California Lions Sight Associations Vision Screening Unit, a fully-equipped motorhome that is designed to offer no-cost glaucoma and visual screening services to those who otherwise might not be able to afford it. The services are available for adults and children. The Lions Club will be staffing the unit, and local optometrists –Dr. Jerry Chan, OD and Dr. Tiffany Chan, OD – will volunteer their services for the day.

      New this year, Foothill Lions will also be offering free hearing tests for adults and children. The testing will be provided by Sol Barros, an audiologist specialist from Audiology Associates Hearing Center who will donate her time for this event. All screenings at this event are free, as the Foothill Lions Club covers all costs.

      The free hearing and vision screening is provided as part of Community Involvement Day, a day to donate items to nonprofit organizations – the Food Bank of Nevada County, Foothill Lions, Nevada County 2-1-1, NEO Youth Center, Story Club, Community Beyond Violence, Cinderella Project, The Karing Closet, Gold Country YMCA, Nevada County Pets in Need, Nevada County Diaper Project, and The White Barn Project – in exchange for coupons for buy one, get one adult admission tickets to the Fair.  Or, donate blood through BloodSource on that day and receive a free admission ticket to the Fair.  The organizations will be at the Fairgrounds Gate 1 parking lot and Main Street Center on Monday, July 30, from 1 – 6 pm.

        Nevada County Fairgrounds Closed to Walkers and Bicyclists from June 8 – 15, 2014

        In preparation for the annual Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival, June 12 – 15, in addition to a private music camp June 8 – 11, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will be closed to walkers and bicyclists beginning June 8. The Fairgrounds will re-open its gates to walkers and bicyclists as usual on Monday, June 16. This closure does not affect the Main Office, which is open during its normal business hours of Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.

        The RV Park at the Fairgrounds will also be closed to the public from June 8 – 15.

        At various times throughout the year the grounds are rented by organizations for large, community events like the Bluegrass Festival, the KVMR Celtic Festival, Strawberry Music Festival, and The California WorldFest. During these times, it becomes necessary to close the grounds to pedestrians in preparation for these various events.

        Seeking Community Showcase Acts for the Nevada County Fair

        Applications available for those interested in performing or demonstrating at this year’s Fair 

        The Nevada County Fair is now accepting applications for local entertainers and community acts to perform at the 2014 Nevada County Fair, August 6 – 10.  Do you have a dance group you’d like to see perform at the Fair? Does your group have a skill they’d like to demonstrate to Fair-goers? Want to do a martial arts demonstration or a cheerleading demonstration or show off your baton twirling skills? If so, the Fairgrounds wants your application. This is a great way to share your talents with the community!

        Applications are now available on the website at www.NevadaCountyFair.com.  To be considered, the application must be returned to the Fairgrounds by June 2. There is no paid compensation for community showcases and demonstrations.

        The application is for those interested in performing on the Dance Pad (available afternoon and evening hours); The Green (available during afternoon hours); or the Tumbleweed Stage (available evening hours only).

        Country Christmas Fair Coming Up at Nevada County Fairgrounds

        Dates for Christmas Fair – November 29, November 30, and December 1

        Mark your calendar for the 29th annual Country Christmas Faire at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley on November 29, November 30, and December1. Rated as one of the top handcrafted shows in Northern California, the Country Christmas Faire features unique gifts and crafts from top artisans from across the state.

        Exhibit buildings will be filled during the Thanksgiving weekend, giving shoppers a chance to start their holiday shopping with quality hand-made holiday items, ornaments, jewelry, wooden crafts, soaps and lotions, hand-woven baskets, stained glass, candles, beadwork, and dozens of other unique gifts.

        Visitors to the Faire will enjoy strolling live entertainment, festival foods, the magical Gingerbread House exhibit, errand elves, and a community bon-fire. Wagon rides around the Fairgrounds will be offered; and Victorian singers, the bell ringing RiverBells, and the Sierra Symphony quartet will perform throughout the event.

        Santa will be available each day until an hour before the event closes, so bring your camera to capture that special photo with Santa.

        Free babysitting will be offered in Tall Pines Building, so parents can drop off their children while they enjoy holiday shopping.  Additionally, Story Club, with free children’s story telling and free book giveaways, will be offered daily in the Tall Pines Building at 10 am, 11 am, and 3 pm.

        On Sunday of the Faire, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will partner with Grass Valley Elks for a canned Food Drive. Bring a can of food on Sunday, December 1, from 10 am to 4 pm, and receive $1 off Sunday’s admission price (one coupon per person). All food donated will help feed those in need in Nevada County.

        Ginerbread House Contest at Nevada County Fairgrounds

        Create a gingerbread house and win!  

        Submit your entry form by Friday, November 22

        Now is the time for holiday bakers to think about the creation of a magical Gingerbread House to enter into the 11th annual Gingerbread House Competition at the Country Christmas Faire, held November 29, November 30 and December 1 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley.

        Houses, bungalows, cottages, and castles fashioned from spicy gingerbread will be displayed for holiday shoppers to enjoy at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley during the Thanksgiving weekend festivities.

        Competitors may enter any of the many categories, including children, teens, adults, special needs, families, and groups.  There’s even a category for children under 8 years of age who want to enter a house made by a kit.

        Ribbons are given to all winners, and, additionally, the Best of Show winner will receive $100. A special gift basket from Tess’ Kitchen Store will be also awarded to the Best of Show winner and the People’s Choice Award.

        Entry forms must be received at the Fairgrounds between now and Friday, November 22 by 4 pm. The actual gingerbread house entry must be delivered to the Fairgrounds on Tuesday, November 26 between the hours of 11 am – 6 pm.  The cost is $2 to enter, and all Gingerbread House exhibitors will receive two free passes to the Country Christmas Faire.

        Nevada County Fairgrounds Begins Winter Hours, Effective November 1

        Inner-grounds and gates to be locked at 4:30 pm and closed on weekends
        Effective November 1, the Nevada County Fairgrounds will return to its winter hours. This change in hours means that the Fairgrounds’ inner-grounds and gates will be locked at
        4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and closed on weekends.   The inner-grounds and gates will remain open during the week to walkers and bicyclists, but all must be off the grounds before the gates lock at 4:30 pm.

        The winter hours only affect the inner-grounds and gate closures; it does not affect the Main Office, which is open during its normal business hours of Monday through Friday from
        8 am to 5 pm.  Additionally, the RV Park at the Fairgrounds will remain open, and the gates and inner-grounds will remain open for any events that are taking place on the grounds during the winter months.

        Halloween Fun at the Nevada County Fair Grounds

        SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26 FROM 2 – 5 PM

        Join in the fall festivities and Halloween fun at the Nevada County Fairgrounds on Saturday, October 26. Rain or shine, in costume or in street clothes, don’t miss out on the fun!

        Bring your family and friends for some Halloween fun from 2 to 5 pm on Saturday, October 26.  Hot dogs will be served by Bill’s Chuckwagon, and there will be treats for the kids, a cupcake walk, and lots of games. Plus, you don’t want to miss the costume contests and a chance to win some great prizes!

        The cost for the Halloween event at the Fairgrounds is only $5 per person and includes food, treats, games, and entertainment!  Tickets will be available at the door on the day of the event. This family-friendly Halloween event is hosted by the Nevada County Fairgrounds Foundation, and sponsored by Cirino’s at Main Street.

        Nevada County Fairgrounds Change for 2014 Draft Horse Classic

        New Dates: September 18 – 21, 2014

        The dates for the 2014 Draft Horse Classic in Grass Valley have been changed to September 18 – 21, 2014.   All ticket sale orders will begin May 1, 2014.  At that time, you’ll be able to order your tickets by FAX, mail, phone, or walk-in. On-line ticket sales will begin June 2. To get the best seats, place your ticket order early!
